Long Summary:

Shawn is desperate to find a wife, but he’s shy and awkward on dates. He works at a dating app but still can’t seem to find his soulmate. His brother drags him to a party where Shawn lands a date with the captivating Violet. Shawn’s autism and trusting nature keep him from realizing Violet is actually a prostitute. On their “date,” she realizes something is different about Shawn, and it’s not just because he has a condition that allows him to “hear” colors. When he finally asks what she does for a living, Violet tells him she’s an actress.

Shawn shows Violet a level of devotion she’s never seen before, waiting outside with innocent encouragement as Violet “auditions” all over town. Shawn’s protective family gets involved as they begin to see what’s happening and question Violet’s background. Though his brother and grandmother have been trusted guides, Shawn starts to realize he needs to break away from his family and explore what it means to be in a loving relationship.

Shawn thinks he’s found a potential wife, while Violet thinks she’s found her ticket to a brand-new life. The harsh realities of Violet’s life soon begin to press in on them, and this unlikely pair is forced to decide whether they have what it takes to stay together or if their vastly different lives will break them apart. Jason Treviño – Shawn

Jason Treviño grew up in the foster care system in and around Houston, Texas, after his mother was a victim of trafficking. He found his passion for performing when he began participating in high school theater during his junior year. Since then, his work in theater and film has brought him all around the country. Cason has a passion for deaf theatre and has worked on ASL versions of plays such as A Midsummer Night’s Dream (voice of Lysander and Puck) and Madwoman of Chaillot (voice of Ragpicker).

Jason relocated to Seattle, Washington, for an internship at the Seattle Repertory Theatre and completed his MFA in Acting at the University of Washington’s Professional Actor Training Program. He discovered a love for writing while completing his degree. Jason is now based in New York City, where he continues to pursue a career in writing and acting. The Sound of Violet is his theatrical feature debut.

Cora Cleary – Violet

Cora Cleary traded the majestic Cascade mountains of Washington for the sandy beaches of sunny southern California and is thrilled to graduate in 2022 from Loyola Marymount University with a BA in Theatre Arts. The Sound of Violet is Cora’s feature film debut. Previously, she starred in the TV pilot, Fumble, acted in the Netflix original series Everything Sucks! and wrote and starred in a singer-songwriter musical theatrical piece, Mooned.

Cora’s other passions include rock climbing, running half-marathons, dancing, and social justice. She is very proud to have taught an anti-bullying improv residency at an Inglewood Middle School with the non-profit Fringe Benefits. Cora looks forward to collaborating with other artists on social and environmental issues and is excited about what the future holds.

Jan D’Arcy – Ruth

Jan D’Arcy is a television and film actress with a career spanning almost five decades. She is best known for her recurring role as Sylvia Horne in Twin Peaks. She has appeared in many other films and tv series, including Alive, X-Files, L.A. Law, Countdown, Better Off Dead, Outer Limits, 21 Jump Street, Expiration Date, and The Highlander. She has worked with world-renowned directors David Lynch, Gore Verbinski, and Frank Marshall. A graduate of Catholic University with a Master’s Degree from UCLA, Jan has uniquely combined the two worlds of performance art and science/technology. When not in front of the camera, she has built a successful strategic communications business with clients like Microsoft, NASA, IBM, Boeing, T-Mobile, Alaska Airlines, IEEE, EPA, and Pacific Northwest National Lab. Jan is the author of Technically Speaking and Speak Without Fear and hosted a weekly national radio program, Communications Corner. A mother of five children and grandmother to five children, she easily relates to the role of the protective grandmother in The Sound of Violet.

Michael E. Bell – Anton

Michael has been performing in front of audiences since he was ten years old. He studied the Uta Hagen method of acting at TVI School in New York City. While attending classes, Michael accepted many roles as an extra on shows and movies being filmed in the New York area. After being on sets and seeing the behind-the-scenes workings of television and film, he knew that was where he wanted to be. Michael performed in various student films while developing his craft. After several years in the New York market, Michael relocated to Seattle to tap into their ever-growing entertainment scene.

Since moving to Seattle, he has landed several principal roles on both the big screen and television and has started writing his own screenplays. Michael is a highly versatile and talented actor and musician and is rising to the top of his field. In 2023, he related to New York City.

Kaelon Christopher – Colin

Kaelon Christopher began his acting career at age nine with industrial short films and regional commercials. His mother had acted and modeled in her 20s and recognized the gift Kaelon had for entertaining from a young age. Starting with the Seattle Children’s Theater at age ten, Kaelon continued working steadily into his teens and 20s. At age 15, he booked Bizkid$, an Emmy Award-Winning PBS show. Bizkid$ went on for six seasons, and Kaelon was a main cast member on all 67 episodes. The show opened his horizons personally and professionally and enabled him to experience some incredible moments, such as ringing the closing bell at the NYSE at age 21.

At eighteen, Kaelon moved to Los Angeles to pursue his acting career. A few years later, he had completed work for the Disney Channel as a TV host, filmed a few graduate short films at USC, and was a main cast member for a travel show for teens. He moved back home to Seattle, where he continues his career in entertainment with jobs ranging from voiceover work and commercials to independent films.

Malcolm J. West – Douglas

Malcolm J West began his acting career in 1973 after graduating from the University of Washington’s School of Drama. Since then, he has performed continuously for both stage and film productions. He is a devoted husband and grandparent, and spends his spare time fishing and preparing for life’s next challenge.

Allen Wolf – Writer, Director, Producer

Allen is a filmmaker, author, game creator and podcaster. The Sound of Violet was his debut novel and it won a number of awards, including two Book of the Year awards. He adapted the novel into the screenplay for the movie that he also produced and directed. Allen’s previous feature film, the thriller In My Sleep, was released worldwide and won multiple film festival awards.

Allen is also the host of the popular Navigating Hollywood podcast where he interviews entertainment professionals about their careers and how they thrive in Hollywood.

Allen has won 39 awards for the five board games he has created that have brought smiles to hundreds of thousands of people around the world. Allen’s You’re Pulling My Leg! game makes a background appearance in Shawn’s bedroom in The Sound of Violet and was featured prominently in In My Sleep.

Allen graduated from New York University’s film school, where his senior thesis film, Harlem Grace, won multiple festival awards and was a finalist for the Student Academy Awards. Allen married his Persian princess, and they are raising their daughter and son in Los Angeles.

Chris Joseph Taylor – Director of Photography

Chris Taylor began his career shooting an M16 in the military before taking shots as a camera jockey, producing documentaries for the U.S. Marine Corps. He left the military to pursue a less conservative career path in a more creative industry and soon earned his film degree at the Art Institute of Seattle. Influenced heavily by the lighting side of visual storytelling, he was brought up through the ranks as a gaffer as well as a cinematographer and editor. He has won numerous awards for his cinematography. He also owns a hot dog stand.

Conrad Pope – Composer

Conrad Pope is one of the most respected and in-demand musicians working in Hollywood. Over his career, Conrad has contributed to the music of more than a hundred films that range from the Star Wars Episodes I-III, The Matrix films, the Harry Potter series to Moonrise Kingdom.

Film composers John Williams, Hans Zimmer, Alexandre Desplat, Alan Silvestri, Jerry Goldsmith, Danny Elfman, James Horner, and Howard Shore have all called upon his expertise as one of the industry’s top orchestrators, conductors and score producers.

Pope has scored numerous independent films as a composer, including the original score to Penn &Teller’s documentary Tim’s Vermeer, the critically acclaimed My Week with Marilyn starring Michele Williams and Eddie Redmayne, and In My Sleep, Allen Wolf’s previous film. He is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, has served on the Music Branch Executive Committee, and is a member of the American Association of Music Arrangers and Composers.

Patti Carns Kalles – Casting Director

Patti Carns Kalles has been a CSA Casting Director for 35 years. She was the Casting Director on the award-winning series “Northern Exposure,” where she received 2 Artios awards for her casting, which is the Casting Society of America’s equivalent of an Oscar.

Her first film in Seattle, where The Sound of Violet is set, was Harry and the Hendersons, followed by other films like Homeward Bound, Drug Store Cowboy, My Private Idaho, Say Anything, Three Fugitives, Memoirs of a Geisha, and many more films. Some TV shows include Frasier, Pandora’s Clock, Danger of Love, With a Vengeance, and many more. Patti is known for her casting searches that have produced actors for many projects such as Super 8, The Bad News Bears, and Babel. Patti has cast many independent films that have won festival awards and have been theatrically released. She strongly believes that independent films will fuel the film industry’s future.

Jonathan Miller – Sound Design and Mixing

Jonathan Miller is one of the entertainment industry’s most acclaimed and prolific sound editors. His unique talents have been known to set the auditory mood that defines a film. He is perhaps best known for his work on Independence Day and Trainspotting.

Jonathan learned early in his life how sound could tell a story and convey emotion. That understanding has been the driving force behind his impressive body of work in all genres of filmmaking. His intricate design stirs the senses and can be heard and felt, and many sound design awards and achievements have acknowledged his work.

Originally hailing from England and educated at Haileybury, Jonathan comes from a long line of leading industry professionals. His father, writer Peter Miller and his grandfather Harry Miller, legendary Hitchcock sound editor, inspired his love of sound design.
